On January 5th the Huffington Post published an amazing video relating a UFO which was released by the Chilean Navy. Without a doubt the video presented a UFO captured by a Navy helicopter crew testing a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera. The article drove UFO enthusiast crazy as the Chilean government made it clear that they held on to the video for two years without making any progress in identifying the object.

In the Huffington Post article there was one statement that may have signified to Mick West of that the UFO was in fact an airplane. The article stated, “In two instances it discharged some type of gas or liquid with a high thermal track” Leslie Kean Huffington Post. According to Mick West’s article on, “This looks like a plane, flying away from the camera considerably higher than the helicopter (somewhere around 15,000 to 25,000 feet), that briefly creates an aerodynamic contrail”.

Mick West conducted what appears to be a highly detailed examination of the Chilean UFO data.  How did the Chilean government miss the data that Mick West included in his analysis? From the initial report, the Chilean Navy reported that the helicopter personnel requested confirmation of the object from two separate radar towers and both reported they could not confirm any other aircrafts in the area as indicated by the crew.  The data published on includes data from the website and one could question the reliably of the Chilean air traffic data.

It is highly recommended that UFO enthusiast and debunkers alike review Mick West’s data. While we may not all agree on his conclusion, there is no doubt that Mr. West is resourceful and has the right tools to present a sound argument.
