UFO Buster Radio News – 395: Wyoming UFO, NASA NIDS, and MUFON’s Jan Harzan Arrested – Scandal
Douglas Family Reports UFO Sighting
By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily
A Douglas family reported seeing an unidentified flying object in April, according to a recent posting to the National UFO Reporting Center.
The family’s report, posted to the private organization’s website, said family members were outside of Douglas on a night in mid-April when they saw a “somewhat transparent” object in either a crescent or saucer shape possibly fly across the sky and then change direction.
Family remembers reportedly saw the UFO at various points over a 45-minute period at different elevations and spots in the sky.
“My family and I have never seen anything like that, and know how planes act at night,” the report said. “Low flying craft with no lights or sound, with very little visual indication unless you see it at the right time.”
The family believed they were seeing strange clouds at first, but realized that wasn’t the case.
No one was able to capture any photos or video of the UFO because of dark conditions.
UFO reports from Wyoming are not unheard of. In August of 2019, a Jackson woman reported she may have recorded a UFO in the skies of Teton County.
However, experts, including Richard Beckwith, Wyoming’s director of the Mutual UFO Network, said when people report seeing UFOs, they are often seeing items that are terrestrial in nature.
“All that being said, most alleged UFO sightings can be explained by things such as meteors, airplanes, birds, balloons, fireworks, drones, etc.,” Beckwith said in an email to the Cowboy State Daily. “However, a hard core of approximately 5% to 10% of UFO sightings remains unexplained. That is as true for Wyoming as it is anywhere else, perhaps even more so. People do see strange things in Wyoming, and some of them cannot be explained.”
NASA: Alien Life is ‘Highest Planetary Protection Priority’ for Mars Missions
NASA wants to explore Mars, but a new agency directive shows that avoiding “extraterrestrial life and bioactive molecules” hitching a ride back to Earth is a top priority.
NASA made it clear that “safeguarding the Earth from potential back[ward] contamination is the highest planetary protection priority in Mars exploration,” in a NASA Interim Directive (NID) released last week that reforms the agency’s previous policies on this issue.
As for what the agency is worried about, the NID mentions “extraterrestrial life and bioactive molecules” such as prions, which are pathogenic misfolded proteins that cause neurological disease in humans and animals.
Nobody knows if Mars hosts life, though most scientists think that the Martian surface is probably too cold, dry, and irradiated to be inhabited. However, Mars had some of the right conditions to support life billions of years ago, and indigenous Martians, perhaps in the form of bacteria, may persist deep under its icecaps or in subterranean water reservoirs. Even the most remote chance of bringing alien life, or any extraterrestrial substances that could cause harm, back to Earth is a cause for serious concern.
Head of Major UFO Organization Arrested on Child Solicitation Charges
The 64-year-old Newport Beach resident now serves as the executive director of the Mutual UFO Network, or MUFON, an international research nonprofit — head of the Mutual UFO Network, was arrested July 3 and is accused of soliciting “sexual activity from a detective he believed was a 13-year-old girl.”
The executive director of the Mutual UFO Network, one of the oldest UFO research organizations in the United States, has been arrested on charges of soliciting a minor “for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity,” according to police. Jan Harzan, who has headed MUFON since 2013, is accused of soliciting “sexual activity from a detective he believed was a 13-year-old girl,” according to a release from the Huntington Beach, CA police department.
Court records show that Harzan was arrested on charges of “communicating with a minor with intent to engage in a lewd act,” as well as “arranging a meeting to engage with a lewd act with a minor in public.”
Harzan, MUFON, and the Huntington Beach Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“On July 3, detectives contacted a male by the name of Jan Harzan after Harzan solicited sexual activity from a detective he believed was a 13 year old girl,” the Huntington Beach PD wrote in a Facebook post. “The suspect solicited the minor to meet for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity, and when the suspect agreed to meet the supposed minor, detectives were there to take him into custody.”
Harzan was “arrested for multiple felonies and transported to the Huntington Beach Jail [and was] specifically targeting minor females online,” the police department wrote.
From Huntington Beach Police Department Facebook
In the past two weeks, detectives from the Huntington Beach Police Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau have arrested two suspects on two separate incidents involving online crimes against children.
On July 3, detectives contacted a male by the name of Jan Harzan after Harzan solicited sexual activity from a detective he believed was a 13 year old girl. The suspect solicited the minor to meet for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity, and when the suspect agreed to meet the supposed minor, detectives were there to take him into custody.
On July 8, detectives contacted a different male by the name of Norman Powers after Powers also solicited sexual activity from the detective posing as a 13 year old, and also arranged to meet for the purpose of sexual activity. Once he arranged a meet, detectives contacted him and determined he was there to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
Both Harzan and Powers were arrested for multiple felonies and transported to the Huntington Beach Jail. Both of the suspects in these cases were specifically targeting minor females online. This is an great opportunity for us to remind anyone who has minor children with access to the internet – predators are out there, and they are looking for victims.
Please take the time to talk to your children about the dangers of talking to strangers online. This could range from social media apps (they all have instant or direct messaging), gaming, chat rooms that seem innocent, or even ads that predators post online to solicit children for sex. They may seem obvious to adults, but many children do not know what lurks out there on the web, and it’s up to parents and guardians to make them aware.
